Make the First Six Weeks Easier.
A simple family routine for a short basketball program.
Legacy North editorial draft · October 2026
Prepare Once
Put every confirmed session in the family calendar, including exceptions. Check the athlete session time rather than the facility booking time. Decide transport, pickup and who will receive program messages. Label the water bottle and keep court shoes with the kit.
Use a Short Weekly Check-In
Before each session ask what your athlete is looking forward to and whether they need anything. Afterward ask what they tried, who they connected with and what they want to return to. The conversation does not need to become a performance assessment.
Tell the Team Early
If attendance, accessibility or pickup arrangements change, contact the program organizer through the agreed channel. Do not assume a message passed through another child will reach the coach. At the end of the block, ask the athlete what they would like to do next.
