Lead Without Being the Captain.

Make Somebody’s First Minute Easier
Learn a name, explain where equipment goes or invite a new athlete into a group. Leadership often starts before the first drill, when someone is deciding whether they belong.
Communicate Useful Information
Call a teammate’s name, identify an open passing option or let someone know about a screen. Keep your voice helpful. Repeating criticism after a mistake rarely gives the person a better next action.
Take Responsibility Without Taking Over
Own your part in a difficult moment. Ask what the team needs, and leave room for quieter people to answer. Being a leader does not make you responsible for solving another person’s mental-health or safety concerns; bring a trusted adult into those situations.
Make It Useful.
Write your own next step. These notes stay in this page and are not saved or sent; print before leaving if you want to keep them.
