Check the Load Carried by Your Team
Workload problems often hide behind capable people who keep saying yes. Make recurring duties and interruptions visible before assuming the solution is greater individual resilience.
When to use it
Use this when tasks are slipping, one person is constantly available or the team reports overload.
Put It into Practice
- Ask each role to list its essential duties, current deadlines and recurring interruptions, using a supportive conversation rather than tracking every minute of a person's day.
- Compare responsibilities with actual available hours and identify work to remove, delay, simplify or reassign through an authorized decision.
- Agree on boundaries for availability and a review date, keeping private personal circumstances out of shared planning documents unless the person chooses otherwise.
What It Can Look Like
A coordinator absorbs every late-night logistics message, so the organization sets a monitored contact window and assigns a backup instead of praising constant availability.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: A workload review should produce changes to priorities or support, not a new expectation that individuals hide strain more efficiently.
