Design the welcome, not just the drill.
Design the Welcome, Not Just the Drill.
A repeatable opening routine that helps athletes settle in.

Know Who Is Arriving
Have a roster, the agreed guardian and emergency contacts, and the information needed for safe participation. Keep sensitive details out of public view. Check the space and equipment before athletes begin.
Give the First Minutes a Clear Shape
Greet athletes by name, show new participants where to put their things and explain the first activity. Offer a manageable way to join rather than requiring a public introduction. Invite a teammate to help without making them responsible for supervision.
Explain the Signals
Show how you will gather attention, where water breaks happen and how an athlete can ask for help. Revisit expectations through specific actions: listen when someone speaks, keep contact appropriate and leave space for others to learn.
Make It Useful.
Write your own next step. These notes stay in this page and are not saved or sent; print before leaving if you want to keep them.
