Keep an Evidence Register for Public Claims
A small evidence register makes it easier to check statements before they appear in a website, report or pitch. Link each claim to a source and its limitations.
When to use it
Use this when several people write about the same program or reuse statistics across channels.
Put It into Practice
- List frequently used claims and record the underlying source, date range, definition and responsible owner; mark unsupported statements rather than silently repeating them.
- Distinguish direct records, participant feedback and evaluated outcomes, and note whether permission is needed for any identifiable quotation or example.
- Review the register before publication and retire outdated claims, keeping a short change record so old wording does not reappear in copied materials.
What It Can Look Like
A team records exactly which attendance period supports a participation total and flags a wellbeing claim as unmeasured, so the website uses a narrower description.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: An evidence register supports honest communication by making uncertainty and definitions accessible to the people drafting public material.
