Make a Community Request Easier to Answer

A request is easier to consider when the recipient can see the need, the specific ask and the commitment involved. Respect their time and authority to decline.

When to use it

Use this when asking a school, local business or community group for practical support.

Put It into Practice

  1. Explain the concrete participant need and propose one bounded contribution, specifying timing, resources and any conditions without overstating the program's reach or outcomes.
  2. State who will coordinate the work and what information you can provide, checking that the request respects the recipient's own approval process and capacity.
  3. Give a reasonable response route and timeframe, then follow up only as agreed; acknowledge a decline without treating community goodwill as an obligation.

What It Can Look Like

A program asks a local organization about lending a meeting space for one defined orientation evening, with an identified lead and a clear cleanup arrangement.

Take it with you: A respectful request makes the decision concrete and leaves space for a smaller contribution, an alternative suggestion or no contribution at all.
