Make a Program Budget People Can Use
A delivery budget should help leaders decide what they can promise. Organize it around confirmed costs, realistic uncertainties and who can approve a change.
When to use it
Use this before committing to a new session block or event.
Put It into Practice
- List venue, staffing, equipment, administration and other relevant costs, distinguishing confirmed quotations from estimates and noting the assumptions behind each estimate.
- Record confirmed income separately from pending applications or hoped-for sponsorship, then identify the minimum feasible delivery option if expected funding does not arrive.
- Assign spending authority and a review date, and update the plan when commitments change; take specialized financial questions to the appropriate responsible adviser.
What It Can Look Like
A clinic is viable with confirmed funding for one day, so leaders hold the second date as a proposal until the additional support is agreed.

Take it with you: A usable budget makes assumptions visible and connects commitments to available resources without treating uncertain income as already received.
