Choose One Family Volunteering Commitment

Volunteering can strengthen a local program without requiring a family to say yes to every request. Match one clear contribution to your actual capacity and interests.

When to use it

Use this when you want to help but are unsure which task or time commitment is realistic.

Put It into Practice

  1. Ask the organizer for defined needs and any required screening, orientation or safeguards; choose a role that does not conflict with supervising your own children.
  2. Confirm the task, shift, responsible contact and limits in writing, including what happens if you cannot attend; avoid promising ongoing availability before trying the role.
  3. Complete the agreed contribution and give concise feedback, then decide separately whether to volunteer again rather than letting one yes become an indefinite obligation.

What It Can Look Like

A caregiver takes one equipment-return shift after orientation and confirms that another adult handles their child's pickup during that time.

Take it with you: A modest, dependable contribution helps more than an open-ended promise that leaves both the family and organizer uncertain.
