Prepare a Carpool Conversation

Shared travel can make rural sport possible, but an informal lift still needs clear adult agreements. Start with the organization's transport requirements and your child's comfort.

When to use it

Use this before joining a new carpool or adding a different driver to an established arrangement.

Put It into Practice

  1. Confirm the approved arrangement, supervision expectations, pickup locations and emergency contact process with the program and participating caregivers before the first trip.
  2. Agree on costs, timing, cancellations and how changes are communicated; share only the contact details needed by the adults handling that journey.
  3. Explain the plan to your athlete and invite questions privately; make it easy to tell you if any part of the arrangement feels uncomfortable.

What It Can Look Like

Two families share one weekly drive and confirm each trip in the approved channel; a cancelled lift triggers a parent call, not an improvised ride.

Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.

Take it with you: Convenience does not replace an explicit handoff, the program's safeguards or a young person's opportunity to raise concerns.
