Give a Teammate Information They Can Use
Replace noise and criticism with clear, timely communication.
When to use it
Use when a team is either silent or shouting too many instructions.
Put It into Practice
- Ask your coach which short calls your group uses and what they mean. Do not introduce a different term halfway through an activity.
- Communicate information the teammate needs before the decision, using a calm, audible voice. Avoid commenting on every movement or narrating their mistakes.
- Check afterwards whether the call helped. Keep the terms the group understands and practice them at a pace where everyone can respond.
What It Can Look Like
Calling a teammate’s name and showing a target before a pass is more useful than complaining after it goes elsewhere.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: Good communication reduces confusion; volume alone does not make it useful.
