Help Without Taking Over

Support a teammate while leaving them ownership of the task.

When to use it

Use when you know an activity and a teammate is still learning it.

Put It into Practice

  1. Ask whether help would be useful before giving instructions. If they decline, respect that and let the coach handle the task.
  2. Offer one clear point that matches the coach’s teaching. Demonstrate only with permission and avoid adding a competing set of technical instructions.
  3. Give the teammate room to try. Ask what they noticed instead of performing the task for them or correcting every repetition.

What It Can Look Like

A player explains where the rotation starts and then steps back so the teammate can practice.
