Notice Work That Does Not Get Applause
Recognize useful contributions beyond scoring and highlights.
When to use it
Use when the team talks only about the most visible performances.
Put It into Practice
- Look for one specific action that helped the group: communicating, creating space, welcoming someone or preparing equipment with permission.
- Tell the person what you noticed and why it mattered. Keep the observation accurate rather than using exaggerated praise to make them feel better.
- Invite the group to notice different contributions over time. Do not turn recognition into a popularity contest or a compulsory public sharing circle.
What It Can Look Like
“You explained the rotation to me before we started, so I could join properly” gives a teammate useful recognition.

Take it with you: Leadership includes helping people see the value they already contribute.
