Prepare a Respectful Role Conversation

Understand your role and ask about development without demanding guarantees.

When to use it

Use when you are unsure what your coach needs from you.

Put It into Practice

  1. Request an appropriate meeting time outside active play. Prepare two questions about responsibilities and one about a skill you can develop.
  2. Listen for specific actions and repeat them back. Separate feedback you can work on from selection or playing-time decisions that are not yours to control.
  3. Agree on one practice focus and a follow-up point. If you still feel confused, bring a trusted adult into the conversation through the program’s process.

What It Can Look Like

A player asks how to improve off-ball decisions and agrees to revisit examples after several sessions.

Take it with you: You can advocate for your development while respecting that roles may change.
