Respond When the Score Gets Away
Find a useful team action during a difficult stretch.
When to use it
Use when the score is distracting you from the possession in front of you.
Put It into Practice
- Notice what is happening without pretending the score does not matter. Then identify one instruction your coach wants the team to follow now.
- Choose a contribution within that instruction: communicate a matchup, create a passing option or get organized. Do not try to repair the whole game alone.
- At the next break, ask what the team should keep or change. Avoid blaming a teammate for the score or abandoning agreed roles to chase personal highlights.
What It Can Look Like
A team behind by a wide margin returns its attention to clear communication and executing the next instruction.
