Separate the Result from Your Decisions

Evaluate a choice without letting the final score explain everything.

When to use it

Use after a game where the outcome feels like the only story.

Put It into Practice

  1. Pick one decision and describe the information available at the time. Do not assume a made shot proves every decision was good or a miss proves it was wrong.
  2. Ask what matched the team’s instruction and what you would reconsider. Use a coach’s perspective when you are uncertain about the basketball read.
  3. Write one decision you want to repeat and one you want to practice. Keep the reflection narrow enough to use at the next session.

What It Can Look Like

An open, appropriate shot misses; the player still discusses whether the read matched the situation.
