Try Something Difficult in a Smaller Step
Make a new challenge manageable without pretending it is easy.
When to use it
Use when you avoid a skill because you do not want to look inexperienced.
Put It into Practice
- Tell your coach what feels difficult: the technique, pace, audience or uncertainty about the task. Name the obstacle as specifically as you can.
- Agree on a smaller version that keeps the learning goal. You might reduce the pace, practice with one partner or clarify a starting position.
- Try a short set and discuss what changed. Decide together whether to repeat, adjust or progress instead of treating one attempt as a final verdict.
What It Can Look Like
A player rehearses the footwork without a defender before rejoining a decision-based activity.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: A smaller step is still part of the work when it serves the same learning goal.
