Welcome the Player Standing Alone
Make joining the group easier with a small, specific invitation.
When to use it
Use when someone is new, returning after an absence or unsure where to go.
Put It into Practice
- Approach without making the person the centre of attention. Say your name and ask whether they want help finding the right group.
- Offer a concrete option: a passing partner, a place in the warm-up or an introduction to the coach. Respect a no or a preference for space.
- Check back naturally later. Do not expect a thank-you or announce that you “helped the new person”; belonging should not create a debt.
What It Can Look Like
“We’re warming up over here. Want to join us?” is easier to answer than “Why are you standing alone?”
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: A welcoming action gives someone a choice and a way in.
