End Practice with an Exit Action

A closing reflection is more useful when it points toward something an athlete can try. Keep the question small and let athletes choose how to answer. The exit routine should help you plan without extending practice beyond the promised finish.

When to use it

Use in the final few minutes of a session.

Put It into Practice

  1. Ask athletes to name one action they want to repeat or explore next time. Offer a spoken, written or partner response so public speaking is not the only route.
  2. Listen for patterns rather than evaluating every answer. Note one or two themes privately and avoid turning reflections into scores or compulsory personal disclosures.
  3. Open the next practice by connecting an activity to what athletes identified. Explain when a suggestion cannot be used and show how their input influenced planning.

What It Can Look Like

Several athletes ask for another attempt at receiving under pressure, so the coach includes a short opening game with that decision.
