Make Room for a Quiet Reset

Sometimes an athlete needs a brief pause from the noise and pace of practice. A clear reset option can help them step away without shame while preserving supervision. It should remain an invitation and practical support, never a punishment.

When to use it

Use when planning how athletes can take a short break during sessions.

Put It into Practice

  1. Identify a calm, visible area within your supervision arrangements. Explain how athletes signal for a break and which adult checks in without leaving others unsupervised.
  2. Ask what support the athlete wants: a little time, water or help understanding the next activity. Avoid forcing public explanations or trying to diagnose what is happening.
  3. Agree on the next step together, whether returning to a simpler task or contacting the appropriate caregiver through program procedures. Review repeated difficulties with the support team.

What It Can Look Like

An athlete takes a supervised pause beside the court and later rejoins with a partner for the next round.

Take it with you: A reset works best when dignity and supervision stay together.
