Ask Your Athlete How They Want to Celebrate
Celebration can be meaningful without becoming public, expensive or tied only to winning. Ask what feels good to your athlete instead of assuming a surprise is welcome.
When to use it
Use this after a season milestone, a personal learning moment or simply completing a meaningful commitment.
Put It into Practice
- Name the occasion and offer a few realistic options, including a quiet acknowledgement or doing nothing special; let the athlete suggest another option.
- Check whether photographs, visitors or public messages are welcome, and keep other children's names and experiences out of the celebration unless appropriately permitted.
- Follow the chosen plan without adding a speech about future expectations; let the moment stand on its own rather than becoming a new target.
What It Can Look Like
An athlete chooses a favourite family activity after completing a season and asks for no social post; the family respects both parts of the request.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: A celebration can honour effort, belonging or learning while leaving the athlete free from a requirement to repeat or exceed the moment.
