Keep Playing-Time Conversations Grounded
Playing-time worries become clearer when you separate what happened, what your athlete understood and what the program actually promises. Avoid comparisons with named teammates.
When to use it
Use this when your athlete is confused about their role or a rotation pattern.
Put It into Practice
- Write down one observed situation and your athlete's question, then read the program's stated participation or selection approach before seeking clarification.
- Help the athlete ask the coach about role expectations and one useful next action, using the age-appropriate communication process established by the program.
- Record the explanation and a reasonable follow-up point; raise inconsistent policy application through the appropriate process without demanding another child's private information.
What It Can Look Like
An athlete asks how substitutes can prepare to enter a game and receives a simple readiness cue; the parent checks that the explanation matches program policy.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: Seek clarity about your athlete's experience while respecting that other players' circumstances and conversations belong to them.
