Make Home Practice Optional and Practical
An athlete may want to practice at home without needing a formal training schedule. Offer a safe space and manageable choices while respecting that home also includes rest.
When to use it
Use this when your athlete asks for extra practice or a coach suggests an optional activity.
Put It into Practice
- Ask what they want to work on and clarify any coached cue they do not understand; avoid inventing a technical correction from a video.
- Check the space, surface, neighbours and household rules, then choose an activity suitable for that environment and the athlete's current ability.
- Let the athlete choose a brief stopping point and whether you participate; do not use extra practice to repay mistakes or missed shots.
What It Can Look Like
With no indoor court available, an athlete chooses a short stationary ball-handling activity in an approved space and stops when their planned time ends.
Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.
Take it with you: Your role is to make an appropriate opportunity available, not to turn every spare evening into compulsory training.
