Navigate a Change of Coach

A new coach can bring different routines and communication habits. Help your athlete learn what has changed without making them defend either the previous or new coach.

When to use it

Use this after a staffing change or when moving between programs.

Put It into Practice

  1. List practical questions together about arrival, communication, expectations and session structure; separate those questions from predictions about the coach's personality.
  2. Read the new program information and ask for clarification through the approved route, giving the athlete an age-appropriate role in routine questions.
  3. After several ordinary sessions, review what is working and what remains unclear; report safety concerns promptly rather than waiting for familiarity to develop.

What It Can Look Like

A family learns that attendance updates now go to an administrator and helps the athlete understand the new warm-up routine before the next session.

Take it with you: A fair transition includes curiosity and clear questions, alongside the same safeguarding expectations that applied before the coaching change.
