Plan a Phone-Free Moment by Agreement
A small shared boundary can create room for connection without making a phone the enemy. Decide the moment together and apply the agreement to adults as well.
When to use it
Use this when everyone wants less distraction during a particular part of basketball days.
Put It into Practice
- Choose one specific window, such as packing the car or eating together, and explain the practical reason rather than making a broad judgement about screen use.
- Ask what exceptions are needed for transport, work, accessibility or staying in contact, then agree where devices will sit during that short window.
- Try the arrangement twice and invite adjustments; avoid inspecting private messages or using the agreement to demand a post-game conversation the athlete does not want.
What It Can Look Like
The family keeps devices aside during the ten-minute drive home unless someone needs to confirm pickup, and they listen to music without requiring conversation.

Take it with you: A shared agreement is more workable than a rule that only the young person is expected to follow.
