Stay Connected When You Cannot Attend

Work, caregiving and travel can make attendance impossible. A parent can show interest without being courtside or making the athlete responsible for providing a detailed report.

When to use it

Use this when you regularly miss games or sessions and want a manageable way to connect.

Put It into Practice

  1. Tell your athlete plainly when you cannot attend and confirm the responsible transport and supervision arrangement, without asking them to comfort you about missing it.
  2. Ask what kind of connection they would enjoy afterward, such as a short message, sharing one moment or talking about something unrelated.
  3. Follow through consistently and obtain updates through approved adult channels when necessary; avoid asking other families for continuous footage or private information.

What It Can Look Like

A caregiver working evenings sends a brief good-luck message and later asks about one moment only if the athlete wants to share.

Your notes stay on this page. They are not saved or sent. Print before leaving to keep a copy.

Take it with you: Connection depends on reliable interest and care, not a perfect attendance record or a stream of performance updates.
